 Reproductions of Woodblock Prints
The original scroll paintings of the Tale of Genji, or "Genji Emaki," were created in the late Heian Period (794 A.D to 1192 A.D.) and visually depict the eponymous tale of romance considered to be the oldest written novel in world's history. The Genji Emaki have been designated as national treasures in Japan, and are currently kept within the permanent collections of The Tokugawa Art Museum and The Gotoh Museum.
Exhibiting at both the Shin Gallery and Yufuku Gallery are the exquisite hand-painted reproductions of the Genji Emaki by Tanaka Shimbi, a renowned master in his field. The Kyoto City University of Arts generously granted us the opportunity to exhibit these fine works.
